The BC Joint Gathering is a three-day event to advance ongoing dialogue between British Columbia First Nations, Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada BC Region (INAC) and other government organizations. It provides a venue for critical discussions on emerging issues and an opportunity to build relationships and foster reconciliation by engaging with First Nations and hearing First Nations’ perspectives.
Since 2012 the annual BC Joint Gathering events have been co-hosted by INAC and the First Nations Leadership Council (comprising representatives of the BC Assembly of First Nations, the First Nations Summit, and the Union of BC Indian Chiefs). Joint Gathering 2017 was attended by 358 First Nation delegates with representation from First Nation communities in British Columbia increasing to 170 (85%) in 2017 from 104 (52%) in 2012.
